Addicted to Animation: Script v6

Scene 01: EXT. STREET CORNER

Corner boys deal at the crossroads to a couple of juvenile dope fiends. Drugs lieutenant SNOWMAN looks on from the steps of the stash house.

Cut to a tighter shot of Snowman on the steps. His beanie hat is pulled low over his beady coal eyes. Whilst snowmen are normally benign figures this one exudes an air of menace and barely restrained violence. He holds his broom at the ready like a weapon.

One of the young corner-boys approaches. He says something to Snowman who gets up and goes inside the house.

Scene 02:  INT. STASH HOUSE

The room is bare apart from some rudimentary furniture; SANTA and ALF sit on a couple of chairs.

The door opens and Snowman enters the room:

SNOWMAN

Yo, Santa.

Santa has his feet on the table smoking a cigar. He is skinnier than the popular stereotype would suggest and carries off his oversize red & white outfit with ghetto swagger.

SANTOS

Wadup Snowman?

SNOWMAN

They need some re-up out there, they close to tapping out

SANTOS

A’right

He turns to Alf (his elf) who’s counting money at a table. Alf is a rangy black guy. Like Santa he wears his traditional Christmas outfit with attitude: curly-toed shoes have never look so street before.

SANTOS

Alf, get my man Snow what he need.

Alf unfolds himself and makes his way to the chimney. He reaches inside and there’s a thud as a sack falls down into the hearth.

Scene 03:  EXT. STREET CORNER

Alf’s now working the corner taking the money. Snowman stands nearby providing the muscle. He has what looks suspiciously like a crack-pipe in his mouth. The messenger from scene 1 is acting as a runner.

A KID approaches Alf and hands over what looks like dollar bills. The corner-boy waits for the nod and then runs off. He comes back with a package, which changes hands surreptitiously.

Scene 04; EXT. ALLEYWAY

The floor is littered with discarded wrapping. A tall leylandii grows over one of the fences.

The customer has joined a bunch of other kids round the corner. Their body language is shifty: packages are held close to chests and they huddle round making it hard to see what’s going on.

Cut to a mid-shot. We can’t see the Kid’s hands but it’s clear that he’s opening something. Then the slightly shifty look on his face turns to an expression of pure innocent childish pleasure:

KID

Yes!!

The camera pulls back to reveal that he has just unwrapped a Christmas present and he’s delighted with his new toy.

Background visual gags:

-       A car on the street has the number plate SLE1GH

-       As the camera moves down the alley a streetlight briefly passes behind the leylandii and for a moment it looks like a star perched on the top of the tree

-       In the wide angle at the end we can see the other children in various stages of opening and playing with their toys. A kid opens his package full of anticipation only to find a hand-knitted jumper with a reindeer motif, much to the amusement of his friends.

-       Through the window of the stash house we catch a glimpse of some antlers as Rudolph grazes outside
